Official Public Notice: Council Meetings, Road Closures, and Health Advisories

Community Meetings and Governance
Wollongong City Council has several key governance activities scheduled for Tuesday, 3 February 2026. Residents are advised that the Wollongong Local Planning Panel Meeting is taking place today to consider significant local development matters. Additionally, members of the community in the northern suburbs are invited to attend the Neighbourhood Forum 4 meeting, covering the Corrimal area, to discuss local issues and initiatives.
These meetings follow the first Ordinary Council Meeting of the year, held on Monday, 2 February, where the Lord Mayor and Councillors met at the Council Chambers to consider the early 2026 agenda. Public access forums remain a vital part of the council process, and residents wishing to speak at future sessions are reminded to submit their applications by 12 noon on the business day prior to the scheduled meeting.
Infrastructure and Road Alerts
Major infrastructure work continues to impact travel in the region. Most significantly, the Mt Ousley commuter carpark is officially closed as of Monday, 2 February, and will remain unavailable to the public until 6:00 am on Monday, 9 February. This closure is required to facilitate ongoing work on the Mt Ousley Interchange project.
Motorists should also prepare for the upcoming full closure of Mt Ousley Road between the M1 Princes Motorway and Gaynor Avenue, scheduled for the weekend of 7–9 February. While travel remains open today, commuters are encouraged to monitor live traffic updates as preparatory works for the interchange ramp up.
Public Exhibitions and Feedback
The Council is currently seeking community input on several long-term strategies and development proposals. Residents have until 9 February 2026 to provide feedback on the proposed redevelopment of the Boat Harbour Motel on Wilson Street (DA-2025/871). Other active public exhibitions include:
- Development proposals for Bellambi Lane, Bellambi, and Walker Street, Helensburgh (Closing 18 February).
- Community feedback on the Beaches, Pools, and Indoor Sports strategies.
- Proposed road naming for the Corrimal Cokeworks subdivision.
- Planning proposals for hotel development on Crown and Church Streets.
Health and Public Safety
NSW Health has issued several active alerts affecting the broader region. A specific clinician alert was released on 2 February 2026 regarding multidrug-resistant gonorrhoea. Furthermore, residents are reminded to remain vigilant for measles symptoms following recent exposure alerts across the state. Several monitoring periods for specific exposure sites in the Greater Sydney and Illawarra regions conclude today, 3 February. Symptoms to watch for include fever, sore eyes, and a blotchy red rash.
Additionally, health authorities continue to urge residents across southern NSW to protect themselves against mosquito bites following an increase in mosquito-borne disease risks throughout the summer season.
