Public Notice: Good Friday Service Changes and Community Health Alerts

Holiday Service Adjustments for Good Friday
Wollongong City Council advises residents of several adjustments to city services and facilities for Good Friday, 10 April 2026. While many essential services continue, residents should be aware of specific closures and modified hours affecting recreational sites throughout the region.
- Aquatic Facilities: The Continental Pool will remain open for limited hours from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm with lifeguard supervision. All other council-managed pools, including all saltwater rock pools and freshwater facilities, will be closed for the duration of the day.
- Wollongong Botanic Garden: The garden will be closed to the public on Good Friday. It is scheduled to reopen for regular hours for the remainder of the Easter long weekend, including Saturday and Easter Sunday.
- Parks and Public Spaces: Council maintenance crews have completed a comprehensive mowing program in parks and foreshore areas to ensure they are ready for holiday visitors. Puckeys Estate Nature Reserve and local playgrounds remain open for public use.
Public Health Alert: Measles Advisory
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has maintained a priority health alert following recently confirmed cases of measles within the Illawarra. Health authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant for symptoms, which typically include high fever, sore red eyes, a runny nose, and a cough, often followed by a red, blotchy rash that spreads from the head to the rest of the body.
Residents who have visited public locations across Wollongong recently are encouraged to monitor their health. Those who are unsure of their vaccination status, or who have not received two doses of the MMR vaccine, should consult their healthcare provider. Additionally, the 2026 Influenza Vaccination Program is now active. Free flu vaccines are available for eligible residents, including children aged six months to five years and adults over 65, to help reduce the risk of respiratory illness this season.
Community Planning and Development
Council invites residents to review several strategic projects currently on public exhibition. The Draft Community Safety Plan 2026-2031 is open for public feedback, outlining the city's five-year strategy for crime prevention and enhancing perceptions of safety in public spaces. Feedback from the community is essential to ensure local priorities are addressed.
Furthermore, several infrastructure tenders are currently active, including major flood mitigation works for Ursula Road in Bulli and the refurbishment of the Otford Community Centre. These projects represent a significant investment in local resilience and community infrastructure.
