Official City Roundup: Saturday, 21 March 2026

Wollongong City Council and regional health authorities have issued several active notices for Saturday, 21 March 2026. These updates cover essential infrastructure maintenance, critical public health warnings, and several planning exhibitions currently open for community feedback. Residents are encouraged to review these notices to stay informed of changes affecting the local government area.

Public Health Advisories: Measles and Buruli Ulcer

NSW Health maintains an active health alert for the Illawarra Shoalhaven district. Residents are advised to remain vigilant following a confirmed measles exposure at the Wollongong Hospital Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) on Thursday, 12 March, between 4:22 pm and 11:59 pm. Individuals who were present at this location must monitor for symptoms—including fever, sore eyes, and a blotchy rash—until 30 March 2026. If symptoms develop, please contact your healthcare provider via telephone before visiting in person.

Additionally, a public health warning remains in effect for south-east New South Wales regarding Buruli ulcer. This bacterial infection is linked to mosquito bites. Health authorities strongly recommend using repellent and wearing long-sleeved clothing during dawn and dusk to minimize risk while outdoors this weekend.

Infrastructure and Sporting Facility Updates

Maintenance and upgrade works are active at several key sites across the city:

  • Ray Robinson Oval, Towradgi: A significant lighting upgrade is currently underway. The project involves the installation of five new lighting poles to improve evening accessibility. Residents should expect minor equipment movement around the oval.
  • Mount Ousley Interchange: Ongoing construction of the new interchange continues. While major closures are scheduled for weeknights, motorists should anticipate speed restrictions of 40km/h or 60km/h and narrowed lanes throughout the weekend.
  • Local Roadworks: Active maintenance sites causing potential minor delays include Salisbury Street in Berkeley, Burke Road in Dapto, and Dymock Street in Fairy Meadow.
  • Helensburgh Pool: The facility is now following its standard seasonal schedule and is fully operational for Saturday visitors.

Planning and Community Feedback

Several major development applications (DAs) and planning proposals are currently on public exhibition. The deadline for formal submissions regarding the Review of Council Landholdings is 31 March 2026. Community members are also invited to comment on the following active proposals:

  • Figtree (DA-2026/120): Proposals for Murray Park Road are open for comment until 8 April 2026.
  • North Wollongong (DA-2026/102): Planning documents for Ajax Avenue are available for review until 8 April 2026.
  • Thirroul (DA-2026/112): The exhibition for Soudan Street remains active through 8 April 2026.

Finally, Council has clarified that no formal submission has been received regarding the potential hosting of V8 Supercars, despite recent public discussions.
