City Bulletin: Public Infrastructure Updates and Community Notices for 28 January

Community Services and Library Programming
Wollongong City Council continues its commitment to community engagement with several scheduled programs active this Wednesday, 28 January. Residents are invited to the Wollongong Botanic Garden for the Garden Discovery Buggy Tour starting at 10:00 AM. This service provides an accessible way for community members to explore the local flora and garden highlights. At the Wollongong Library, the Voices of Insight Photographic Exhibition remains open to the public from 9:00 AM, showcasing local perspectives through visual storytelling.
For younger residents, the Dungeons & Dragons Crawl is being held at the Warrawong Library from 10:00 AM as part of the ongoing school holiday program. Additionally, the Sunset Cinema at the Wollongong Botanic Garden will host a screening of 'Wicked: For Good' this evening, with gates opening at 7:00 PM.
Infrastructure and Public Works
Major infrastructure projects are currently underway across the region. Transport for NSW and Wollongong City Council wish to advise residents of ongoing works related to the Mt Ousley Interchange. Specifically, work is progressing on the new southbound access road to University Avenue and the intersection at Mt Ousley Road and the M1 Princes Motorway. While major weekend closures are scheduled periodically, motorists should expect minor delays and altered traffic conditions in the vicinity today.
Coastal maintenance is also a priority, with remediation work beginning on the North Wollongong seawall. This project aims to protect the coastline and enhance the safety of the Blue Mile precinct. Further north, tenders are currently open for the reinstatement of the damaged coastal pathway and stairs at 127 Lawrence Hargrave Drive in Austinmer, ensuring long-term stability for the popular walking route.
Planning and Development Notices
The following planning proposals and development applications are currently on public exhibition:
- Hayes Lane, Huntley: Public comment for DA-2025/864 closes tomorrow, 29 January. Residents are encouraged to submit feedback today.
- MacCabe Park: A proposal for the classification of land at MacCabe Park as operational land is available for review.
- Corrimal Cokeworks: Council is seeking feedback on proposed road naming for the new subdivision at the historic site.
- The Globe Hotel: A planning proposal for hotel development at the intersection of Crown and Church Streets is currently under consideration.
Public Health and Safety Advisory
NSW Health continues to urge residents across the Illawarra to take precautions against mosquito-borne diseases following recent detections in southern NSW. Residents should use repellent, wear long sleeves, and remove stagnant water from their properties. Additionally, a general health advisory remains in place for measles monitoring. Any individuals who visited exposure sites in Sydney earlier this month should monitor for symptoms, including fever and blotchy rashes, until early February.
