City Notice Roundup: Storm Recovery and Health Alerts for Thursday, 2 April

Facility Closures and Reopenings
Following the recent severe weather and high tides that impacted the coastline, Wollongong City Council is continuing extensive clean-up operations to ensure public safety. Residents and visitors are advised that the Austinmer Car Park will be closed to all vehicles on Thursday, 2 April 2026, from 5:30 AM to 2:15 PM. This closure is essential to allow heavy machinery and Council crews to remove significant sand deposits and ocean debris from the area.
In positive news for local swimmers, the Continental Pool is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, 2 April, following a temporary closure for maintenance and storm-related debris removal. While some beach closures remain in effect at locations including Fairy Meadow, City Beach, Towradgi, and Scarborough, Council is working to restore these spaces in time for the upcoming Easter long weekend. Patrons are reminded to follow all temporary signage and avoid entering restricted work zones.
NSW Health: Measles Advisory
NSW Health has issued an urgent advisory for the Wollongong area following the identification of several new measles cases. As of April 2026, there have been 37 confirmed cases across the state since the start of the year. Health officials are urging residents to remain vigilant for symptoms such as fever, runny nose, sore eyes, and a cough, which typically appear before a red, blotchy rash. This is particularly critical for those who may have visited recent exposure sites, including the Wollongong Hospital Medical Assessment Unit.
Community members who are unsure of their vaccination status are strongly encouraged to consult their GP regarding the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine. If symptoms develop, patients should call ahead before visiting a clinic or emergency department to prevent further transmission in waiting rooms.
Infrastructure and Road Updates
Ongoing major works continue across the city as part of the West Dapto Access Strategy. West Dapto Road remains closed to through-traffic to facilitate critical upgrades, with a full reopening currently projected for mid-2026. Local access is maintained for residents, though motorists are encouraged to utilize Fowlers Road or Bong Bong Road as primary detours. Additionally, construction remains active on Stage 2 of the Cleveland Road widening project; drivers should expect minor delays and changed traffic conditions near the Fowlers Road intersection.

The following significant Development Applications (DAs) are currently on public exhibition. Residents are invited to review the proposals and provide feedback via the Council’s online portal:
