City Notices: Infrastructure Projects and Public Health Advisories

Official City Roundup: Thursday, 5 March 2026
Wollongong City Council and NSW Health have issued several notices regarding infrastructure maintenance, local governance changes, and public health requirements currently active for Thursday, 5 March 2026. Residents are encouraged to review these updates to ensure they are informed of local impacts and community opportunities.
Infrastructure and Road Maintenance
Major remedial works are currently underway at Windang Bridge to address significant erosion issues affecting the structural stability of the crossing. To facilitate the delivery of machinery and approximately 3,000 tonnes of protective rock, sections of the Fern Street car park near the boat ramp remain unavailable for public use. Motorists and lake users are advised to exercise caution and follow on-site signage.
Additionally, site mobilization continues for the next stage of the North Wollongong Seawall. This project is part of the Blue Mile precinct protection plan. While the area remains accessible, pedestrians should be mindful of construction vehicle movements near the foreshore.
Governance and Ward 3 Vacancy
Wollongong City Council has formally announced the resignation of Ward 3 Councillor Tiana Myers, effective immediately as of early March. Council has confirmed that the casual vacancy will be filled via a countback election, utilizing ballot papers from the previous ordinary election. This process avoids the need for a full by-election and ensures continued representation for the residents of Ward 3.
Public Health Advisories
NSW Health has maintained region-wide alerts for the Illawarra Shoalhaven district. Residents are urged to remain vigilant regarding the following:
- Measles Alert: Following identified exposure sites in the region, individuals are advised to monitor for symptoms including fever, sore eyes, and a blotchy rash. Vaccination records should be reviewed, particularly for those attending large public gatherings.
- Buruli Ulcer Warning: A public health warning remains in effect for south-east New South Wales due to the detection of Buruli ulcer. As this bacterial infection is linked to mosquito bites, residents should use repellent and wear protective clothing during dawn and dusk.
Planning and Community Development
The public exhibition period remains open for several significant projects. Community feedback is currently being sought for:
- Corrimal Cokeworks Urban Renewal (DA-2023/840): Detailed plans for this major project on Railway Street are available for review, with the submission period closing on 18 March 2026.
- Regent Theatre Development (DA-2026/77): Proposals regarding the Keira Street site are on exhibition until 1 April 2026.
- Council Landholding Review: A strategic review of Council-owned lands zoned for residential use is open for public comment until 31 March 2026.
Community Renewable Program
Registration is now open for Round 2 of the Community Renewable Program. This initiative, supported by the Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation, assists households in Wollongong with transitioning to solar power and battery storage. Residents can register their interest online to receive updates on bulk-buy pricing and information sessions scheduled for the coming months.
