Official City Roundup: Public Notices and Infrastructure Updates

Stay informed about the latest public service announcements, infrastructure works, and community notices active across the City of Wollongong for Thursday, 22 January 2026. These updates reflect official scheduling from Wollongong City Council and relevant public service agencies.

Public Service and Workforce Consultations

The Public Service Association (PSA) has scheduled a site visit to the Wollongong Court House today. Union organizers will be present from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the Sheriff’s lunch rooms (both upstairs and downstairs) to conduct Vocational Branch Advisory Group elections and discuss joint consultative dates for 2026. Staff and members are encouraged to attend to raise workplace safety concerns and staffing matters.

Infrastructure and Maintenance Works

Wollongong City Council continues its weekly maintenance program. Residents should expect temporary traffic adjustments or localized noise at the following work sites today:

  • Avondale: Pavement and drainage maintenance on Avondale Road.
  • Corrimal: Civil works on Eager Street.
  • Dapto: Ongoing upgrades at the intersection of Cleveland Road and Fowlers Road, alongside works on Yorkshire Road.
  • Fairy Meadow: Roadside maintenance on Helen Brae Avenue.
  • North Wollongong: Essential maintenance continues at the North Beach Bathers Pavilion and adjacent kiosk. While beach access remains open and lifeguards are on duty, the café and kiosk are currently closed to facilitate structural repairs ahead of the upcoming seawall extension.

Development Applications on Public Exhibition

The following Development Applications (DAs) are currently open for public comment. Detailed plans can be viewed via the Council’s online portal:

  • Bellambi: DA-2026/15 – Proposed works at Bellambi Lane.
  • Helensburgh: DA-2026/2 – Residential development on Walker Street.
  • Wombarra: DA-2026/5 – Proposed alterations on Dam Road.
  • Wollongong: DA-2025/871 – Significant amendments regarding the Boat Harbour Motel site on Wilson Street.

Community Programs and Health Advisories

Following the recent storm activity earlier this month, the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) continues to support minor cleanup efforts. Beachgoers are reminded to swim only between the red and yellow flags, as hazardous surf conditions may persist along the Illawarra coast. Community members are also invited to the following library and cultural events today:

  • FrogID Fun: A citizen science workshop at Wollongong Library starting at 6:00 pm.
  • Library Programs: Pet Rock crafting at Unanderra Library (Ages 5+) and the Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Crawl at Corrimal Library from 10:00 am.
  • Public Exhibition: The 'Voices of Insight' photographic exhibition is open for viewing at the Wollongong CBD throughout the day.
