Community Consultation: Transport for NSW at Crown Street Markets

Transport for NSW is inviting Wollongong residents to provide direct feedback on the future of the region's transport network. Official representatives will be hosting a community pop-up session at the Wollongong Crown Street Markets this Friday, 23 January 2026, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. This session is part of the public exhibition for the Draft Illawarra Shoalhaven Strategic Regional Integrated Transport Plan. The plan focuses on long-term solutions for road safety, public transport frequency, and active transport connectivity. Residents are encouraged to share their views before the formal consultation period concludes on 9 February.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance and Flu Season

NSW Health has issued an advisory for the broader region following a measles alert released on 21 January. While the most recent confirmed exposure sites were located in Sydney, health authorities have noted an increased risk across the state with 11 confirmed cases since early December. Residents traveling between the Illawarra and Sydney are urged to monitor for symptoms such as fever, sore eyes, and a cough. Additionally, the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District continues to manage an unusually prolonged influenza season. Health officials recommend that the community remains up to date with vaccinations and stays home if feeling unwell to limit the spread of respiratory illnesses.

Last Call: Library Summer Book Sale and Exhibitions

Today, Friday, 23 January, is the final day of the Wollongong City Libraries Summer Book Sale. Pre-loved titles have been available across all seven library branches since mid-January, and locals have until the close of business today to secure discounted books. Furthermore, the Voices of Insight photographic exhibition is currently open at Wollongong Library. This exhibition features de-identified photographs and stories detailing lived experiences of domestic and family violence, aimed at raising community awareness. It will remain on display until 2 February.

Current Development Applications on Exhibition

  • DA-2026/5: Application for Dam Road, Wombarra.

Australia Day Traffic and Safety Reminders

In preparation for the Australia Day festivities this Monday, 26 January, Council has issued an early reminder regarding significant road closures in the Wollongong Harbour precinct. Major thoroughfares, including Cliff Road, Marine Drive, and Harbour Street, will be closed to general traffic on Monday to accommodate the community event. Residents are also advised that Council has secured Flagstaff Hill as a secondary firing location for the 9:00 pm fireworks display to ensure the show can proceed safely if sea conditions at the southern breakwall are unfavorable.
