Discover Local Art and Adventure This Wednesday

As we move into the final week of January, Wollongong is buzzing with a diverse range of activities for residents and visitors alike. Whether you are looking for a quiet morning of reflection, an outdoor adventure, or a social evening by the coast, Wednesday, 28 January 2026, offers something for everyone.

Exhibitions and Creative Spaces

Start your morning at the Wollongong Library to experience the Voices of Insight Photographic Exhibition. This moving display is open from 9:00 am to 3:55 pm and offers a unique perspective on local stories and community insights. It is a perfect way to spend a peaceful hour before the heat of the day sets in.

Art lovers should also head to the Wollongong Art Gallery, which is currently hosting several major exhibitions. You can explore the Wollongong Art Prize 2025, showcasing the region's top talent, or dive into the immersive world of Kate Mitchell’s Set States. Additionally, the community gallery features We are Kin by Ruth Barbato and Clare Hattersley, a collaborative project celebrating the human spirit through photography and collage.

Outdoor and Family Fun

For those who prefer the fresh air, the Wollongong Botanic Garden is hosting the Garden Discovery Buggy Tour at 10:00 am. This guided tour is an excellent way for those with limited mobility or families with young children to see the highlights of the gardens without the strenuous walking.

The school holiday spirit is still alive for the younger demographic. Local libraries, including those in Helensburgh and Warrawong, are hosting the popular Dungeons & Dragons Crawl from 10:00 am. These sessions are designed for teens aged 12 to 18, providing a space for creativity and collaborative storytelling led by experienced dungeon masters.

Community Connections

Wednesday is a big day for local meetups. Early risers can join the Wollongong 40+ Social Group for their weekly walk and brunch. The group meets at 9:00 am at the Longboard Cafe near Wollongong Beach for a scenic stroll followed by a social meal.

As the sun begins to set, another community tradition continues. The Mid-week Coastal Walk and Swim group gathers at Nick’s on Bourke at 5:40 pm. This regular event includes a brisk walk along the Blue Mile, an optional sunset dip in the Continental Pool or rock pools, and a group dinner to cap off the night. Finally, for those seeking support or a friendly chat, Lifeline South Coast will be available at the Wollongong Library from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm for their regular community drop-in session.
