Official City Roundup: Public Health Alerts and Infrastructure Updates for Monday, 30 March

Public Health Advisory: Final Day for Measles Monitoring
NSW Health and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District have issued a final reminder for individuals who were present at the Wollongong Hospital Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) earlier this month. Residents who visited the facility on Thursday, 12 March, between 4:22 pm and 11:59 pm are advised that today, Monday, 30 March, marks the final day of the official 18-day monitoring period for measles symptoms.
Furthermore, a general community alert remains in place following three additional confirmed cases of measles identified last week in the Fairy Meadow, North Wollongong, and Warrawong areas. Residents should remain vigilant for symptoms including fever, sore eyes, and a runny nose, followed by a red, blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, health authorities urge you to call your GP or the emergency department ahead of time to ensure you are isolated upon arrival.
Strategic Planning: Submission Deadlines Approaching
Wollongong City Council is reminding the community that several key strategic planning exhibitions are entering their final stages. Residents wishing to have their say on the future of the city must submit their feedback shortly:
- Review of Council Landholdings: Public exhibition for the strategic review of various council-owned properties, primarily those zoned for low and medium-density residential use, will close tomorrow, Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
- Draft Community Safety Plan 2026–2031: Today is one of the final opportunities to provide feedback on the five-year roadmap for enhancing public safety. The plan focuses on improved lighting in public spaces and increased support for mental health services.
- Development Applications: Major proposals for Murray Park Road in Figtree and Ajax Avenue in North Wollongong remain open for review at the Burelli Street Customer Service Centre.
Infrastructure and Local Maintenance Works
Essential maintenance and infrastructure projects continue across the city this week. Motorists and pedestrians should note the following active sites:
- Ray Robinson Oval, Towradgi: Work continues on the installation of new lighting poles. While the oval remains accessible for daytime use, visitors are asked to keep clear of cordoned-off construction zones where heavy machinery may be operating.
- Mount Ousley Interchange: Ongoing construction on the new interchange will result in narrowed lanes and speed restrictions of 40km/h or 60km/h. While major night works are primarily scheduled for weeknights, commuters should allow extra travel time today.
- Local Road Repairs: Patching and drainage maintenance are scheduled for sections of Salisbury Street in Berkeley and Burke Road in Dapto.
Waste Collection and Facility Services
For residents on the Monday collection cycle, Wollongong Waste reminds households that FOGO (green lid) and general waste (red lid) bins should be placed on the kerbside before 6:00 am. Bins should be placed at least 30cm apart to allow for automated arm clearance. If you have experienced bin damage during recent windy conditions, repairs can be logged via the Council website or the Wollongong Waste app.
