Community Update: Essential Works and Public Safety

As the city commences operations for Monday, 2 March 2026, Wollongong City Council and NSW Health have issued several official notices regarding infrastructure maintenance, public health advisories, and ongoing community consultations. Residents and commuters are encouraged to review these notices to ensure minimal disruption to their daily schedules and to remain informed on local health matters.

Infrastructure and Road Maintenance Schedule

Wollongong City Council has authorized a series of essential infrastructure projects for the week commencing Monday, 2 March. These works include road resurfacing, footpath upgrades, and stormwater management. Residents should anticipate minor delays and temporary traffic control measures at the following locations:

  • Roadworks: Maintenance crews will be active on Salisbury Street in Berkeley, Burke Road in Dapto, and Madden Street in Fernhill. In Fairy Meadow, multi-site roadworks continue along Dymock Street and Helen Brae Avenue. Additionally, works are scheduled for Pooraka Avenue and Eastern Street in Keiraville, as well as Mount Keira Road.
  • Footpaths and Shared Paths: Construction of new pedestrian infrastructure is underway on Garden Avenue in Figtree and near the Russell Vale Golf Course. Pedestrians are advised to follow all posted signage and use designated detours.
  • Flood and Stormwater Management: Essential flood mitigation works are progressing at Sharkeys Beach in Coledale to improve regional drainage and coastal resilience.
  • Traffic and Transport: Site improvements are scheduled at the North Depot in Bulli to enhance local council operations.

Public Health Advisories: Illawarra Shoalhaven District

NSW Health has maintained active alerts for the Illawarra region following recent local developments. Residents are urged to take the following precautions:

  • Measles Alert: Following the identification of exposure sites within the district, health authorities are advising the community to monitor for symptoms including fever, sore eyes, a cough, and a distinct blotchy rash. Individuals who are unsure of their vaccination status are encouraged to consult their healthcare provider.
  • Buruli Ulcer Warning: A public health warning remains in effect regarding the detection of Buruli ulcer in south-east New South Wales. This bacterial infection can cause significant skin damage and is often associated with mosquito bites. Residents should apply mosquito repellent and wear protective clothing during dawn and dusk.

Planning and Community Consultation

Members of the public are invited to provide feedback on several significant planning proposals currently on exhibition:

  • Corrimal Cokeworks Renewal: Development Application DA-2023/840 for the urban renewal of the Railway Street site remains open for public comment until 18 March 2026.
  • Council Landholdings Review: Submissions are also being accepted for the strategic review of Council-owned lands until 31 March 2026. Documentation is available for viewing at all Council libraries and the Administration Building on Burelli Street.
