Health Advisory: Measles Alert for Wollongong Area

NSW Health has issued an urgent advisory for residents in the Wollongong region to remain vigilant for symptoms of measles following the confirmation of three new locally acquired cases. Health officials have identified several exposure locations including Fairy Meadow, North Wollongong, Gwynneville, Wollongong, and Warrawong. While the specific locations do not pose an ongoing risk, individuals who visited these areas recently are urged to monitor for symptoms such as fever, sore eyes, and a cough, typically followed by a blotchy red rash.

If you or a family member develop symptoms, please call ahead to your GP or emergency department before arriving to prevent further transmission. Those who are pregnant, immunocompromised, or have infants are advised to contact the Public Health Unit on 1300 066 055 if they believe they have been exposed.

Community Notice: Creative Wollongong Studios Open Day

Wollongong City Council invites the public to the Creative Studios Open Day on Saturday, 28 March 2026. As part of the Artists in Residence Program, six local artists will open their studio doors to the community, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at their creative processes. The event features a range of disciplines including sculpture, textiles, and painting, with selected works available for purchase.

In addition to the studio tours, the Wollongong Art Gallery will host the official opening of the 'Edge City' and 'Architecture of Feeling' exhibitions starting at 2:00 pm. These events are free to attend and provide a platform for supporting local creative talent.

Infrastructure and Park Maintenance Updates

  • North Beach Seawall Construction: Major works are underway for the second stage of the seawall extension. A significant construction zone has been established, resulting in the closure of the North Beach Kiosk and Diggies. Temporary fencing is in place to protect the beachfront and the North Wollongong Surf Life Saving Club sculpture.
  • Wollongong Harbour: The jetty at Wollongong Harbour remains closed to the public following a recent safety assessment. Structural repairs are being planned to ensure the long-term safety of the site.
  • City-Wide Mowing Schedule: Council crews are currently prioritizing mowing and maintenance across all 140 playgrounds and 119 sports fields. Recent weather patterns have led to rapid grass growth, and teams are working through high-use areas in Helensburgh, Thirroul, and Berkeley as conditions allow.

Public Exhibition: Community Safety Plan 2026-2031

Residents are encouraged to review and provide feedback on the Draft Community Safety Plan 2026-2031, which is currently on public exhibition. The plan outlines strategies for reducing anti-social behavior and enhancing public lighting and safety upgrades across the city.
