Official City Roundup: Monday, 9 March 2026

Wollongong City Council has issued several official notices and public service announcements for the week commencing Monday, 9 March 2026. Residents are encouraged to review the following updates regarding local development, community infrastructure, and environmental initiatives.

Planning and Development Exhibitions

Two major development applications remain open for public exhibition and feedback this week. These projects represent significant changes to the city’s heritage and residential landscape:

  • Regent Theatre Restoration (DA-2026/77): The proposal for the iconic Regent Theatre on Keira Street is currently available for review. The exhibition period, which began on 2 March, remains open until 1 April 2026. Council invites residents to examine the plans for the site’s future use and preservation.
  • Corrimal Cokeworks Site (DA-2023/840): The urban renewal project at the former Cokeworks on Railway Street, Corrimal, is in its final exhibition stages. Submissions for this significant development must be received by Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
  • Landholdings Review: A strategic review of Council-owned landholdings zoned for residential use is also on exhibition. Feedback on these reclassifications is accepted through the Let’s Talk Wollongong portal until 31 March 2026.

Infrastructure and Tenders

Council is currently seeking formal quotes and tenders for critical infrastructure maintenance. Of particular note is the Kawasaki Bridge Refurbishment (T1000247). This project involves the removal of the bridge to an off-site facility for timber replacement, steel repairs, and full repainting. Interested contractors have until 10:00 AM on 17 March 2026 to submit their applications through the Tenderlink portal.

Community Initiatives and Environment

Residents looking to improve their home’s energy efficiency can still participate in the Community Renewable Program. This initiative, launched earlier this month, provides guidance on solar and battery systems to help households transition to renewable energy. Information sessions and sign-ups are active throughout March.

Additionally, Council has issued an early advisory for the Household Chemical Clean-out. While the drive-thru disposal event is scheduled for next month, residents are encouraged to begin identifying and safely storing household chemicals—including paints, oils, and cleaning agents—in preparation for the free service.

Upcoming Meetings

While no formal meetings are scheduled for Monday, 9 March, residents in the northern and southern regions should prepare for the following Neighbourhood Forums on Wednesday, 11 March 2026:

  • Neighbourhood Forum 1 (Helensburgh Area)
  • Neighbourhood Forum 8 (Dapto Area)

These forums provide a direct platform for community members to discuss local issues with Council representatives and neighbors.
