Official City Notice: Weekly Works and Community Updates

Wollongong City Council has issued its latest schedule of essential infrastructure maintenance and public consultations. Residents are advised that several high-impact projects are currently active across the region for the week ending Saturday, 7 March 2026. These works are part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to improving local safety, accessibility, and community facilities.

Infrastructure and Road Maintenance

Commuters and local residents should expect minor delays and temporary traffic management at the following locations due to scheduled road and footpath upgrades:

  • Roadworks: Active maintenance crews are stationed on Salisbury Street in Berkeley, Burke Road in Dapto, and Madden Street in Fernhill. Additional resurfacing works continue in Fairy Meadow along Dymock Street and Helen Brae Avenue, as well as on Pooraka Avenue and Eastern Street in Keiraville.
  • Pedestrian Improvements: New footpath and shared path construction is progressing on Garden Avenue in Figtree, Railway Crescent in Stanwell Park, and near the Russell Vale Golf Course. Residents on Rosemont Street in Wollongong are also advised of active site works.
  • Aquatic Facilities: Scheduled safety inspections and structural maintenance are currently being conducted at Bellambi, Bulli, and Coledale Rock Pools. While facilities remain largely accessible, some sections may be cordoned off for brief periods.

Planning and Development Exhibition

Community members are invited to review and provide feedback on several significant planning proposals currently on public exhibition:

  • Corrimal Cokeworks: The exhibition for the major urban renewal project at the Corrimal Cokeworks site (DA-2023/840) remains open. Submissions will be accepted until 18 March 2026.
  • Regent Theatre: A development application for the iconic Regent Theatre on Keira Street (DA-2026/77) is available for public comment until 1 April 2026.
  • Landholding Review: A strategic review of Council-owned landholdings across the Wollongong LGA is on exhibition until 31 March 2026. Documents can be viewed at all Council libraries or the Burelli Street administration building.

Health and Public Safety Alerts

NSW Health has maintained an increased vigilance notice for the Illawarra Shoalhaven district. Residents are encouraged to stay informed regarding the following health advisories:

  • Measles Alert: Following an increase in confirmed cases across New South Wales, health officials urge residents to monitor for symptoms including fever, sore eyes, and a blotchy rash. Those who are unvaccinated or have compromised immune systems should consult their GP if they believe they have been exposed.
  • Mosquito-Borne Diseases: With recent warm weather, communities in southern NSW are advised to take precautions against mosquito bites to reduce the risk of infections. This includes using repellent and removing stagnant water from residential properties.

Community Project Update

Construction is officially underway on four new public preschools located at Lake Heights, Berkeley West, Hayes Park, and Cringila Public Schools. These facilities are expected to be completed by early 2027, providing significant new early learning capacity for local families.
