Public Health Advisory: Measles Alert
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has issued a public health alert following confirmed measles cases in the Illawarra region. Health officials are advising residents to be vigilant for symptoms, which include fever, sore eyes, and a cough, followed by a non-itchy rash. Residents, particularly those born during or after 1966, are urged to check their vaccination records and ensure they have received two doses of the MMR vaccine.
Planning Proposals and Public Hearings
Council is currently seeking community input on the Reclassification of Council-owned land. A Public Hearing will be held following the recent exhibition of Planning Proposals PP-2025/3 and PP-2025/11. These proposals involve the review of landholdings and the reclassification of specific sites in Wollongong and Stewart Street from 'Community' to 'Operational' land.
Residents wishing to attend the Public Hearing or make a submission must register their interest with the Land Use Planning Team no later than Friday, 17 April 2026. These hearings will be overseen by an independent chairperson.
Infrastructure and Maintenance Update
Following recent weather events, Council maintenance crews remain active across the city. Mowing schedules have been prioritised for high-traffic parks and green spaces to manage rapid autumn growth. Additionally, residents are reminded that public kerbside EV chargers are now operational on Council-managed land to support the city's transition to sustainable transport. Maintenance teams are also focused on beachside clean-ups following significant swells that impacted the foreshore areas of Austinmer, Thirroul, and Port Kembla.
Development Applications on Exhibition
Several significant Development Applications (DAs) are currently open for public comment, including proposed works on the Princes Highway in Corrimal (closing 29 April) and Ribbonwood Road in Farmborough Heights (closing 22 April). Detailed plans can be viewed via the Council’s online DA Tracker.
