Critical Tender Submission Deadlines

Local contractors and service providers are reminded that three major Wollongong City Council tenders are scheduled to close at 10:00 am on Tuesday, 20 January 2026. This includes Tender T1000237, which seeks the provision of advanced self-service technology across seven regional libraries to modernise borrowing and payment systems. Also closing today is Tender T1000230, concerning the remediation of a damaged coastal pathway and stair reinstatement at 127 Lawrence Hargrave Drive in Austinmer. This project is a priority for ensuring long-term stability and public safety following previous natural disaster impacts. Additionally, submissions are due for Tender T1000236, which involves the design and construction of upgraded sportsfield lighting at Ocean Park in Woonona.

Public Health Advisories

NSW Health has issued a targeted advisory for residents in the Illawarra and southern New South Wales regions to protect themselves against mosquito-borne diseases. Following recent significant rainfall and coastal flooding, mosquito activity has increased. Residents are urged to use effective repellents, wear long-sleeved clothing during peak activity times at dawn and dusk, and remove stagnant water from around their properties. Furthermore, an active measles alert remains in place across the state. Community members are encouraged to check their immunization records and monitor for symptoms, including high fever and a blotchy rash, following several locally acquired cases and exposures linked to international travelers.

Scheduled Road and Infrastructure Works

Maintenance crews are active across the local government area as part of the essential works program for the week commencing Monday, 19 January. The following locations are subject to changed traffic conditions and potential minor delays on Tuesday, 20 January:

  • Avondale: Road surface maintenance on Avondale Road.
  • Corrimal: Infrastructure upgrades on Eager Street.
  • Dapto: Significant works continuing at Cleveland Road, Fowlers Road, and Yorkshire Road.
  • Fairy Meadow: Footpath and road improvements on Helen Brae Avenue.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution in low-lying coastal areas near river mouths and foreshores where debris clearing from recent flash flooding may still be occurring. The State Emergency Service (SES) continues to monitor areas susceptible to minor flooding.

Community and Library Notices

The Hive Festival continues its program of events today, with various workshops taking place across the city. Notable activities for Tuesday, 20 January include the Plushie Pals Drop-in Workshop and the ‘Sweep It Out The Door’ art session. Additionally, the Helensburgh Library is hosting a Dungeons & Dragons session for teenagers aged 12-18 as part of the summer school holiday program. While the North Wollongong Beach seawall project enters its next phase of preparation, the Bathers Pavilion remains open with modified access arrangements in place; however, some adjacent kiosk services remain temporarily closed for maintenance.
