Official Public Notice Roundup: Wednesday, 1 April 2026

Wollongong City Council and NSW Health have issued several high-priority notices for residents today. This roundup provides a comprehensive overview of health advisories, infrastructure recovery efforts, and community deadlines active for Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

Health Advisory: Measles Alert for Wollongong

NSW Health is advising the Wollongong community to remain on high alert for symptoms of measles following the confirmation of locally acquired cases late last month. Health officials have identified multiple exposure sites in North Wollongong and Fairy Meadow. Because it can take up to 18 days for symptoms to appear, residents are urged to monitor their health if they have visited public spaces recently. Key symptoms include fever, runny nose, sore eyes, and a cough, often followed by a red, blotchy rash. Authorities recommend that anyone who is unsure of their vaccination status consult their GP. If symptoms develop, you must call your medical provider or hospital ahead of arrival to prevent further transmission in waiting areas.

Beach and Facility Recovery Updates

Council recovery crews are active along the coastline today as they continue to address sand movement and debris resulting from recent heavy swells. The following conditions apply today:

  • Continental Pool: The facility remains closed today for necessary cleaning and refilling operations. It is scheduled to reopen to the public on Thursday, 2 April.
  • Beach Closures: Red flags remain up and swimming is prohibited at Fairy Meadow, Austinmer, City Beach, Towradgi, and Scarborough. Safety investigations and debris removal are ongoing to ensure these spaces are ready for the upcoming Easter long weekend.
  • Thirroul and Austinmer: While the Thirroul Beach Promenade has reopened, motorists are reminded that the Austinmer Car Park will be closed tomorrow, 2 April, for heavy machinery access.

Traffic and Transport Management

Commuters should be aware of continued traffic management activities within the Wollongong Education Precinct. To reduce congestion near the University of Wollongong and TAFE NSW, temporary diversions are in place weekday mornings from 7:45 am to 9:15 am. Additionally, West Dapto Road remains closed for major widening and bridge piling works. Local traffic is being diverted via Fairwater Drive and Bong Bong Road.

Community Deadlines and Engagement

Today is a significant date for local planning and community feedback:

  • Neighbourhood Forum 5: Residents in the Wollongong Area are invited to attend the Neighbourhood Forum meeting held today, 1 April.
  • Development Submissions: Today is the final day to lodge public submissions regarding the development application for the Regent Theatre on Keira Street (DA-2026/77).
  • Community Safety Plan: The Draft Community Safety Plan 2026–2031 remains on public exhibition. Residents are encouraged to review the roadmap and provide feedback on local safety priorities before 30 April.
  • Grant Applications: Community groups are reminded that the closing date for Heritage Grants and Small Arts and Culture Grants is Friday, 3 April.
