Public Health Alert: Measles Monitoring in the Illawarra

NSW Health has issued an active public health alert for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District following confirmed measles cases across the region. Residents who have recently visited identified exposure sites, including the Wollongong Campus Medical Centre in Keiraville, are advised to monitor for symptoms until March 28, 2026. Symptoms typically begin with a high fever, runny nose, and cough, followed by a red, blotchy rash. Health officials urge anyone developing these symptoms to call ahead to their GP or medical provider before visiting in person to prevent further transmission of the virus.

Infrastructure Update: North Wollongong Seawall and Towradgi Upgrades

Wollongong City Council continues its commitment to coastal protection and community safety with two major projects currently in the construction phase. At North Wollongong, site mobilization remains active for the next section of the seawall. This project is a critical component of the Blue Mile precinct protection plan, designed to safeguard the coastline against erosion while maintaining the character of the beachfront. Additionally, work is ongoing at Ray Robinson Oval in Towradgi for a significant lighting upgrade. This project aims to improve visibility for evening sports and enhance safety for all park users. While the oval remains accessible, visitors are requested to maintain a safe distance from cordoned-off work zones.
