Public Notices: Mt Ousley Commuter Carpark Closure and Council Meeting Details

Ordinary Meeting of Council
The first Ordinary Meeting of Council for 2026 is scheduled to take place on Monday, 2 February. Following the summer recess, the Council will convene at 6:00 pm to discuss the initial agenda for the year, which includes reporting on the Delivery Program and the local infrastructure budget. These meetings are held at the Council Chambers on Burelli Street and are open to the public. Residents are encouraged to attend to stay informed about local governance and upcoming municipal projects.
Mt Ousley Road Commuter Carpark Closure
Transport for NSW has issued a critical notice for commuters regarding the Mt Ousley Interchange project. As part of the ongoing construction work, the commuter carpark located at Mt Ousley Road will be fully closed starting from 6:00 am on Monday, 2 February. This closure is expected to remain in place until 6:00 am on Monday, 9 February. During this period, motorists are advised to seek alternative parking or use public transport options. Signage is currently in place to direct users to nearby facilities, and additional travel time should be factored into morning commutes.
Development Applications on Exhibition
Wollongong City Council has several significant Development Applications (DAs) currently open for community feedback. Active notices for Monday, 2 February include:
- DA-2025/871: Proposals for the Boat Harbour Motel on Wilson Street, Wollongong. The closing date for public submissions is 9 February 2026.
- DA-2026/15: Proposed developments on Bellambi Lane, Bellambi, remain open for review until 18 February 2026.
- DA-2026/2: Planning applications for Walker Street in Helensburgh are available for public inspection through mid-February.
Residents can view the full details of these proposals on the Council’s website or at the Wollongong Library.
Weather and Health Advisory
The Bureau of Meteorology has signaled an easing of the severe heatwave conditions that impacted the Illawarra over the weekend. On Monday, 2 February, a southerly change is expected to bring significantly cooler maximum temperatures. Residents are reminded to remain vigilant regarding health alerts; NSW Health continues to monitor recent measles exposure risks, advising anyone who visited major transport hubs in late January to monitor for symptoms through early February.
Library and Community Events
The Wollongong Library on Burelli Street is currently hosting the 'Voices of Insight' photographic exhibition, which is open to visitors during standard Monday operating hours. In the evening, the Sunset Cinema at the Wollongong Botanic Garden will be active, providing a community space for outdoor screenings, weather permitting.
