Community Spirit and Festive Fun in Wollongong

Wollongong is buzzing this Tuesday, March 10, 2026, as the city celebrates the annual Seniors Festival alongside a variety of community and cultural gatherings. From high-energy social dances to tranquil botanical tours and vibrant art exhibitions, there is a wealth of activities to keep locals and visitors engaged throughout the day.

The Lord Mayor’s Afternoon Tea Dance

The highlight of today’s schedule is undoubtedly the annual Lord Mayor’s Afternoon Tea Dance, held at the Wollongong Town Hall from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Hosted by Lord Mayor Councillor Tania Brown, this popular Seniors Festival event invites the community to embrace the theme ‘Live Life in Colour.’ Attendees can look forward to an afternoon filled with live music, social dancing, and a light afternoon tea. It is a fantastic opportunity for residents to connect and celebrate in one of the city’s most iconic venues.

Botanical Discoveries and Library Sessions

For those who prefer the outdoors, the Wollongong Botanic Garden is hosting a Garden Discovery Buggy Tour starting at 10:00 am. Departing from the Duck Pond, this guided tour offers a comfortable way to explore the beauty and diverse plant history of the gardens. It is a perfect morning activity for those looking to enjoy the local landscape without the strain of a long walk.

Local libraries are also hosting specialized sessions today. Families can head to Warrawong Library at 10:30 am for the Tooth Fairy Storytime, a fun and educational event designed to teach children about dental health through engaging stories. Later in the day, Wollongong Library will host Pride Connect from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. This relaxed social group provides a welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ community members and allies to meet and share experiences.

Arts and Culture Spotlight

Art enthusiasts have several exhibitions to choose from today. The Wollongong Art Gallery continues its 'Winter Has Gone' exhibition, showcasing contemporary works by local artists from the Illawarra Association for the Visual Arts. Additionally, the 'Brilliance' exhibition at Project Contemporary Artspace celebrates 25 years of International Women’s Day by highlighting the diverse talents of 35 local female artists.

Rounding out the evening, the Merrigong Theatre Company presents its 'Made From Scratch' program. This multi-artform performance night serves as a platform for local artists to test new material and share raw, creative energy with a live audience, ensuring the day ends on a high cultural note.
